The Gauteng government has officially launched an online app that will give residents access to emergency personnel at the tap of a finger.
Last year, a panic button was rolled out by Premier Panyaza Lesufi to aid in fighting crime across the province's townships, settlements and hostels, as well as provide faster response to cases of domestic violence.
At the time, the province's Department of e-Government said the e-Panic button offered a range of features that make it an ideal solution for government departments, including the ability to pinpoint the location of the emergency, connect directly to emergency services, and provide real-time updates to first responders quickly and accurately.
Gauteng MEC of e-Government, Bonginkosi Dhlamini, said the app is a testament to the progress made by the provincial government to create a safer environment for residents.
"By downloading and using the app, you can protect yourself and your loved ones in times of emergency," he added.
The Gauteng e-Panic Button app is available for download on Android and iOS platforms, providing a convenient and accessible way for all residents to stay safe.
Download and register for the app:
Go to Google Play or the App Store. Search for "Gauteng Panic Button”. Look for the blue icon labelled "Crime Prevention Panic Button Gauteng”.
Press Install: Download the app to your device.
Open the App: Once installed, open the app to start the registration process.
Enter your phone number: Provide your phone number and press "Submit”. You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS.
Enter the OTP: Input the OTP and press "Submit”.
Complete your profile: Enter your name, surname, phone number, and email (email is optional). Accept the terms and conditions to complete your registration.
