Last week’s wet weather in Joburg did not stop the who’s who from coming out to play in style. Last Thursday night was, again, the busiest, with a pool of events to pick from, clearly marking the beginning of a festive season to be filled with party upon party.
First among them was Moët & Chandon's annual savoir-fête, the official opener to South Africa’s festive season.
The posh evening celebration, hinged on togetherness, was staged at the equally posh Tang Restaurant, where the Moët & Chandon Golden Tree was launched in style. A glowing golden tree to mark the festive season, with perfect golden reflections of the Sandton skyline and golden baubles adorning its gleaming metal exterior. Another interesting feature was the tree’s interior, which could open up to offer guests a truly immersive experience. A first of its kind.
And as the word "celebration" is inherent in the culture and savoir faire of Moët & Chandon, it came as no surprise that the Moët & Chandon Golden Tree is set to become an iconic festive symbol.
The glamour-do was attended by Mzansi's leading celebrities and dignitaries. Drinks, music and food were the order of the night as guests mingled with their peers.
The opening performance of the night came from the beautiful SAMA award-winning singer Simmy, who blew guests away with her soothing voice.
Many more well-known faces graced the spectacular event – among them 2019’s Miss Universe, global humanitarian and Mzansi’s sweetheart, Zozibini Tunzi; SA cricket captain Temba Bavuma; Trevor Stuurman; Thembi Seete; Thembisa Mdoda; Mampho Brescia; and, Tino Chinyani.
Grammy-nominated DJ Black Coffee surprised guests with a high-point performance that created an unforgettable atmosphere.
Also adding to the spectacular features of the night was a show-stopper chandelier, crafted from 1 400 Moët & Chandon bottles, hung delicately over a custom-designed champagne cork floor.
With all the smiles and dancing in the room, the evening served as a suitably glamorous reminder of the power of collective celebration.
