Petrolheads are in for a treat this weekend as they will be able to immerse themselves in South Africa’s vibrant car culture at the Festival of Motoring.

The annual event has grown into the largest industry-supported auto show in South Africa and on the African continent.

“Since our inception, we’ve been fuelled by the vision to create a vibrant automotive community where industry titans, passionate motoring enthusiasts and those in search of their dream rides come together for a day of action-packed thrills and family fun,” the organisers said.

Attendees will have the opportunity to explore more than 150 exhibitors showcasing automotive products and services as well as lifestyle offerings and custom vehicles.

“More than just an exhibition, the Festival of Motoring invites you to fully experience and immerse yourself in the world of cars,” the organisers added.

“Feel the thrill of driving cutting-edge models on the iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, the dynamic self-handling track or conquer the dedicated 4×4 off-road course.”

Thanks to the support from vehicle manufacturers and importers, the festival offers 40 pit doors. There’s also a hub of delectable food and live entertainment.

Complimentary shuttle services will be provided by Sani Car Rental from the Mall of Africa as well as internal shuttles by Volkswagen, Isuzu and Haval, to the 4x4 village.

“The event brings together automotive enthusiasts to experience the pinnacle of motoring excellence,” said Michael Dehn, the managing director of Messe Frankfurt South Africa, which stages the festival.

When: From Friday, August 30, until Sunday, September 1.

Cost: Tickets cost R275 for adults and R75 for children aged 4 to 12 years. They are available from Howler.

Pure delight awaits wine enthusiasts, foodies and rugby fans at the much-anticipated Woodlands 100Wines tasting event.

“Prepare your palate for a tantalising journey through a curated selection of the finest wines,” the organisers said.

Some of the exquisite wines from some of South Africa’s best vineyards include Spier Wine Farm, Yolland Brand, Strandveld Vineyards, Opstal, Balance, Boschkloof, Waterford, Major Vines and Watsonia Wines.

“Whether you’re a seasoned connoisseur or just starting your wine journey, the Woodlands 100Wines event is the perfect opportunity to taste, explore and discover your new favourite bottle.”

The event will also feature live music as well as a gourmet food trucks that will be selling mouth-watering options to complement the wine tastings.

“As you sip and savour, enjoy live music that will set the perfect backdrop to your weekend of relaxation and fun.

“This is more than just a wine tasting – it’s a full sensory experience that you won’t want to miss.”

The event will also stream the Springboks and New Zealand match live on a big screen.

“Cheer on your team with a glass of your favourite wine in hand, surrounded by fellow fans in a lively, electric atmosphere.”

Where: Woodlands Shopping Centre’s parking area outside entrance 4 (opposite Heat Grill Room), accessible from Woodlake Drive.

When: Friday, August 30, from 4pm to 8pm and Saturday, August 31, from 2pm to 8pm.

Cost: Tickets cost R180 online or R200 at the door. It includes 15 tasting tokens, a wine glass to take home and memories of a fabulous weekend. Additional tasting tokens available for R150. Tickets are available from Webtickets.

Move for a Cause – Kolisi Foundation Aerobathon

Rachel Kolisi, the wife of two-time Rugby World Cup winning captain, Siya Kolisi, is set to kick spring off with some fitness and well-being for a good cause.

Together with the Kolisi Foundation, in partnership with Fourways Mall and Virgin Active, Rachel is hosting the Move for a Cause event.

“Get ready to move, make a difference and have a blast while being a part of changing the stories of inequality in South Africa,” a statement read.

It added that the gathering was also an opportunity for Joburgers to come together in support of the incredible work being done by the Kolisi Foundation.

Founded by the couple in 2020, the organisation seeks to make a positive difference when it comes to gender-based violence, education and sport as well as food security.

“By joining this event, you'll be directly supporting these impactful focus areas and contributing towards the work that is being done on the ground.”

The charitable exercise gathering will include five classes – Hi Low, Shape, Zumba, Grid and Kick – from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Goody bags will also be available for the first 100 people who sign up for the hour slots.
