Leading pianist Christopher Duigan is on the road again after a short hiatus. His first stop is in Ballito, where he has put together an enchanting programme for his fans.

The relaxing mid-winter classical concert will feature a selection of music which includes Beethoven’s “Sonata Op 26”, works from Frédéric Chopin and a selection from Franz Schubert’s “Impromptus Op 90.”

Widely regarded as one of the nation’s leading concert pianists, Duigan has been recognised as a “South African piano icon”' and a “national musical treasure.”

He has been featured as a soloist, performing extensively with leading South African orchestras in over 100 concert performances. This was in a repertoire of more than 25 works for piano and orchestra.

Through public recitals, he has developed a popular following with his innovative presentation and programming of a broad and eclectic taste in music.

The renowned musician also had over 250 live-streamed concerts during the Covid-19 pandemic, reaching a completely new audience locally and internationally.

Duigan’s recordings of the classical repertoire, in addition to his own compositions with Spanish saxophonist David Salleras, are also available on all major streaming platforms.

Music lovers can anticipate a calming musical voyage across time.

DCO Concerto Festival

Music-lovers have the opportunities to listen to the Durban City Orchestra (DCO) performing a magnificent afternoon concert of live orchestral music in Kloof this weekend.

The DCO have put together a programme that comprises of four different concertos, including Bruch’s violin concerto in G minor, the first movement of Haydn’s Trumpet concerto, the second movement of Mozart’s Bassoon concerto and the third movement of Weber’s Clarinet concerto.

The orchestra, one of the longest running in the country, is made up of active and retired music teachers, a former orchestral conductor, university music students as well as part-time musicians who participate voluntarily for the love of music in this community facility, with about 30 members.

Where: The St Agnes Chapel in Kloof.

When: Sunday, August 4, at 3.30pm.

Flash Entertainers and The Phoenix Dancing Company will entertain fans at the “Chutney and Nagara Nite”.

Chutney and Nagara Nite”

Indian music lovers can prepare for a night of glamour, entertainment and music for the entire family at the upcoming “Chutney and Nagara Nite”, which will feature Flash Entertainers and The Phoenix Dance Company.

The Nagara tradition originally stemmed from India when men dressed in eastern attire and danced to Nagara music because women were not allowed to perform.

Award-winning Flash Entertainers have replicated this dance art form for 56 years with performances across the country. The group ensures that the love for Nagara music lives on for generations to come.

Meanwhile, The Phoenix Dance Company has entertained at numerous events for the past 36 years and has served the Sanathan Dharma, an alternative term used by some Hindus to refer to Hinduism.

They have also uplifted the community and ensured that music lovers never dance alone.

Where: The iZulu Theatre at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom in Umhlanga.
