Durban – Former captain Bongani Khumalo has been recalled to the Bafana Bafana squad for the forthcoming 2014 World Cup qualifier against Botswana in Durban, national coach Gordon Igesund announced on Tuesday.
The England-based defender has not played for South Africa since the African Nations Cup in January. He returns to the team after his winter move to Doncaster Rovers, where he impressed in the opening weeks of the season.
Dutch-based midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo, who plays for PEC Zwolle, is the only uncapped player in the 23-man squad.
The match is crucial for the national team’s hopes of progressing in the qualifying stages of the World Cup. Second-placed Bafana Bafana must win the Group A clash and hope current log leaders Ethiopia fail against Central African Republic.
