Lobomba - South Africa warmed up for a showdown with world champions Spain by scoring two early second-half goals to set up a 3-0 friendly win in Swaziland on Friday.

After a goalless, overly physical, opening half at a packed Somhlolo Stadium, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Bongani Zungu struck within a minute.

Thabo Nthethe added a third as Bafana Bafana (The Boys) prepared for a November 19 clash with World Cup holders and European champions Spain in Johannesburg.

Starting with five of the Orlando Pirates side that finished runners-up in the CAF Champions League last weekend, South Africa could have been ahead inside 30 seconds.

But Kermit Erasmus nodded a cross wide from close range and Swaziland came even closer to breaking the deadlock when a Sabelo Ndzinisa shot struck the post.

Swazi toughness turned to roughness in the clash of southern Africa neighbours 122 places apart on the Fifa rankings and the referee battled to keep tempers in check.

South Africa moved the ball much quicker from the start of the second half, nullifying the physicality of the home side on the artificial pitch at the national stadium.

Half-time substitute Zungu put Letsholonyane through to score on 48 minutes before netting himself off a long pass to effectively end the game as a contest.

When Swaziland failed to clear a free-kick, Nthethe struck a low shot into the corner with 63 minutes gone of a game that never reached great heights. - Sapa-AFP
