The Springbok Women's Sevens team finished their 34-5 defeat against Australia with a strong second half surge in their opening match of the Rugby Sevens event of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Aussies were quick out of the blocks and scored almost at will in the opening half, leading 24-0 at the break.

Maddison Levi was a particular threat to the SA defence and scored four tries in the match, with her strong running breaking a number of tackles.
South Africa also made to many wrong defensive reads in the first half, allowing the Aussies some freeway to the try-line.
The second half was a better one for Nadine Roos and co, with the blonde flyer scoring the first try ever at the Olympic Games.
South Africa had more parity at the breakdown and forced the Australians into a number of errors, something that will bode well for their second match of the day against Ireland.
