Pretoria - The Digital Youth Festival, developed to share and expose young people from disadvantaged communities to opportunities in the digital space, is scheduled to be held this week.

The inaugural event took place in June 2021 in Gauteng, Limpopo and the Eastern Cape. It attracted approximately 8 000 participants over six days.

The festival, hosted by Africa Beyond 4th Industrial Revolution digital innovation hub at the Tshwane South TVET College in Mabopane, will be a hybrid event held both physically and virtually.

There will be speakers representing various technical fields in the digital creative space, exhibitions, master classes, pitching dens and showcasing different technologies.

Africa Beyond 4th Industrial Revolution CEO Kelebogile Molopyane said technology had many advantages, and this helped them to reach more young people, especially those in townships.

“The advantages of technology in 2022 include that Covid-19 has exposed us to the virtual world. We got to see that work can be done virtually. Shopping can be done virtually, and even schooling can be done by all ages, virtually,” he said.

“These are some of the advantages of technology. Hence, our drive to allow children the opportunity to bring the Sandton Convention Centre to the townships.”

The event will be held in Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, Free State and Eastern Cape. For Gauteng, the festival will be held at June 2 and 3.
