It took the City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department more than 12 hours to remove the merchandise of mainly cold drink bottles after a truck had crashed into a house on Monday morning.
The accident was reported to the call centre at 3:41am. The call centre immediately dispatched a fire truck and a rapid intervention unit from Innesdale Fire Station to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters began with rescue operations and called for backup from Central and Hatfield fire stations to assist with search and rescue operations.
The cargo truck carrying beverages had lost control, veered and overturned and hit a house near Kamferbos Street in Kilner Park.
The driver was not immediately found and the call centre then dispatched additional resources to assist with search and rescue operations.
The two occupants of the house, a man and a woman, sustained minor injuries and were treated and transported by private ambulances to Montana Hospital and 1 Military Hospital. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department said it will continue to search for the truck driver and issue further notices where necessary.
