The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a severe weather warning for severe thunderstorms, hail and heavy downpours in parts of the country.
"A Yellow Level 2 warning for thunderstorms resulting in hail, heavy rains and strong damaging winds is issued for the southern parts of Gauteng and Mpumalanga, the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, eastern Free State as well as the central and western parts of North West," the forecaster said.
This is expected to lead to flooding and damage to infrastructure.
A high fire danger warning has been issued for parts of the Northern Cape, western parts of both the Free State and North West as well as extreme northern parts of the Eastern Cape and Beaufort West Municipality in the Western Cape.
Saws added that a heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the Limpopo Lowveld, Mpumalanga and Limpopo valley.
Residents living in central parts of Free State, south-western parts of North West and extreme north-eastern parts of Northern Cape will also be affected by the hot weather. This weather pattern is expected to last until Tuesday.
