Someone won almost R20 million in the Powerball jackpot on Friday night.
The winner spent R15 on a Quick Pick ticket they purchased on a banking app, the National Lottery Ithuba said in a statement on Monday.
The person will walk away with R19,927,387.
"This remarkable win makes them the ninth multi-million jackpot winner across all National Lottery games."
Ithuba said since January 1, 2025, the National Lottery has paid out a total of R474,326,842, nearly half a billion, in winnings to 13,050,483 lucky players nationwide.
The biggest winner of the year so far won the R102 million PowerBall jackpot on January 24, 2025.
Expressing her excitement, Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza said: "We are delighted to celebrate yet another PowerBall jackpot winner so early in the year, indeed we are overjoyed to see so many lives transformed through the National Lottery."
Ithuba said winners who bought their tickets via a banking app are notified of their winnings by their bank, and they have to visit their nearest National Lottery Operator’s office
Winnings are paid out within 72 hours of a valid claim.
The R102 million Powerball jackpot winner spent R100 on his winning ticket and purchased his ticket on the FNB banking app.
The winner said he intends opening his business and donating to a charity.
