Ousted mayor of Tshwane, Democratic Alliance’s Cilliers Brink took to social media platforms, expressing dismay following the announcement of the new mayoral committee in Tshwane, led by new mayor Dr Nasiphi Moya of ActionSA.
Moya was Brink’s deputy mayor until last month when the latter was removed in a vote of no confidence in the Tshwane council. The ANC-sponsored motion of no confidence was supported by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and ActionSA which has dramatically switched allegiance to the ANC in Gauteng.
IOL reported that Moya announced her mayoral committee made up of 10 councillors representative diverse political parties including the African National Congress (ANC), EFF, GOOD, and her political home ActionSA.
Moya told a briefing in Tshwane that as executive mayor, she will ensure that this committee is held accountable for its collective duty to serve the residents of the capital city.
“It is with great honour that I now announce the members of the mayoral committee who will work alongside me in building a prosperous city,” said Moya.

Community and Social Development Services - Councillor Palesa Modise (ANC);
Economic Development and Spatial Planning – Councillor Sarah Mabotsa (GOOD);
Environment and Agriculture Management - Councillor Obakeng Ramabodu (EFF);
Finance – Councillor Eugene Modise (ANC);
Health – Councillor Tshegofatso Mashabela (EFF);
Corporate and Shared Services – Councillor Kholofelo Morodi (ActionSA);

Reacting to the announcement, Brink wrote on X that the power which the EFF holds in the new arrangement running City of Tshwane was not good for clean governance.
Brink wrote: “The power which the EFF will hold in the City of Tshwane’s new coalition is bad news for good government and the city’s financial rescue mission. One of the new EFF MMCs Obakeng Ramabodu is notorious for violent and racist outbursts on the floor of the municipal council.”
Brink’s X post had attracted more than 500 comments by Monday morning, with the majority of the social media users urging the former mayor to let it go.
Joburg MMC for community safety, Dr Mgcini Tshwaku who is an EFF member responded that the “throat of white supremacist and racist was cut”.
Tshwaku added that the time has arrived to dismantle anything that looks, feels and smells like Brink.
Another user, @lekoloaneManam2 responded: “Just rest cry baby you are really boring now …”
Sizakele Mavundla wrote: “This ship has sailed. Take a chill pill.”
Another user, Lesiba Keetse replied: “Let’s give them a chance, they are South Africans too. People voted for them and their party.”
Pan_Africanist responded: “So it’s bad news for the city’s rescue mission because Obakeng is allegedly violent and racist? How will that impact the city’s financial rescue mission?”
