The first anniversary event of the newly established political party, Mkhonto weSizwe (MK), drew an enthusiastic crowd as supporters expressed their hopes for the party’s future and its ability to bring about meaningful change.
One of the attendees, Harry Harry, voiced his dissatisfaction with his former political allegiance, saying, “The ANC did nothing for us. I was the ANC; now I am MK. Let’s see what changes.”
His sentiment was echoed by many who have shifted their support to MK, seeking a new direction in South Africa’s political landscape.
There are many other supporters who travelled long distances to come and support their party.
Mduduzi Masango, from Jozini, another supporter, shared his optimism about MK’s potential, especially in the upcoming 2029 elections.
“I think MK will do very good, especially in the 2029 elections. As you can see now, people love MK. People have faith in MK," he said.
"Almost the whole country moved from other parties and joined MK because they see the intentions MK is coming with. And those who haven’t seen MK’s intentions yet, by 2029 they will see where MK is heading.”
Among the attendees was Mtshilibe Yamkela, who traveled all the way from the Eastern Cape to be part of the event. He highlighted the challenges faced in his province, particularly unemployment, and expressed hope in MK’s promises.
“We trust in MK because in the Eastern Cape, we don’t have jobs. That’s why we are here, to work together with KZN to support MK. We want MK to help us get jobs. We want to see what it will do for us,” he said.
The event showcased a growing support base for MK, with attendees expressing not only their discontent with existing political structures but also their belief in MK’s vision for the country.
