A 40-year-old rapist will spend the rest of his life behind bars after the Pofadder Regional Court in the Northern Cape sentenced him to life imprisonment for the repeated rape of his 11-year-old stepdaughter.
The horrific abuse, which took place over a period of time in Onseepkans, came to light in 2019 when the victim’s brother caught the evil stepdad in the act and reported him to police.
“The meticulous investigations revealed that the accused would accost his stepdaughter when her mother was out at work,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam.
The court not only handed down a life sentence for rape but also declared the man unfit to own a firearm and ordered that his name be recorded in the National Register for Sex Offenders.
The Northern Cape police commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the efforts of advocate Basil Kock and Detective Sergeant Rowen Nortje, whose thorough and meticulous investigation of the case secured the lifelong incarceration of the accused.
She further emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in the fight against gender-based violence, reiterating that partnerships are key in the fight against gender-based violence and the protection of children.
The police continue to urge the public to assist in fighting crime by reporting criminal activities.
