Citroën's new DS Wild Rubis concept car shows that the French marque's reincarnated DS line-up is likely to forge into SUV territory soon.
Set to make its first appearance at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month, the concept is described by its maker as "wild and rebellious yet refined and sophisticated."
Within it relatively large proportions - it's 4.7 metres long and 1.95 metres wide - the concept's bodywork is an attempt to combine the powerful appearance of an SUV with the "refined codes" of the DS line.
Quirky it most certainly is. Its front end resembles that of the recent Numéro 9 concept, with its 3D grille and full LED headlights.
The side profile is dominated by muscular wheel arches, a deep shadow line and chrome roof bars that run seamlessly into the C-pillar, while the rear end is easily its boldest angle, thanks to its recessed taillights housed in sculpted chrome casings.
Citroën has yet to share any cabin imagery with us, but you're likely to find a rather quirky architecture in there and plenty of 'watch-strap' leather surfaces.
As for the mechanical bits, there's no word on how Wild the Rubis really is, although it should be rather efficient, given that it's been engineered to incorporate plug-in hybrid technology.
Its underpinnings also remain uncertain, but we will be most disappointed if it follows the DS5 in offering a conventional suspension set-up instead of the C5's floaty Hydractive system.
