Hyundai has just unveiled its Eon city car in India and this little critter takes over from the Atos as the cheapest car in Hyundai's line-up.
Just 3495mm long and measuring 1500mm in height and 1550mm in width, the Eon is slightly shorter and lower but a tad wider than the Atos.
And not only does it ditch the former's Toyland styling for a more modern 'Fluidic Sculpture' design theme but it's also marginally cheaper than the Atos, with the Indian market version starting at 269 999 rupees (R43 058) versus 284 000 rupees (R45 291). There is a drawback on the performance front, however, with the Eos receiving a new 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that musters just 42kW and 74.5Nm (Atos 1-litre makes 45kW and 87Nm) but the Eos is at least more economical with a claimed average fuel consumption of 4.73 litres per 100km. Power is channelled through a five-speed manual gearbox.
Despite its dimensions, Hyundai still rates this as a five-seater, although we can imagine those occupants becoming rather intimate.
Hyundai South Africa can't as yet confirm whether the Eos will come to South Africa. A company spokesperson did, however, admit that the Atos is currently in its run-out phase and that the company is considering bringing the Eon here but that for the foreseeable future the i10 will be South Africa's least expensive Hyundai.
