These are the first official pictures of the second-generation Hyundai i10, the company's completely-new European A-segment car - due to debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
Five years down the line from the release of its predecessor, the new i10 is 80mm longer, 65mm wider and 50mm lower, on a new platform with a 5mm longer wheelbase and rear dampers relocated to deliver more precise wheel control over all types of road surface.
It's also bigger inside; Hyundai quotes combined front and rear legroom of 1890mm and boot capacity has been increased by more than 10 percent to 252 litres with all seats in place.
ENGINEERED IN GERMANY
Standard safety kit includes stability control and front curtain airbags, while automatic climate control, heatable leather steering wheel and cruise control with speed limiter are options.
As with most Hyundai cars sold in Europe, the new i10 has been designed and developed at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
It will also become the first A-segment Hyundai to be built in the region when production begins at the Hyundai plant in Ízmit, Turkey, which already produces the B-segment i20, and is being expanded to increase its capacity to 200 000 cars a year.
NUTS AND BOLTS
Hyundai has promised more details of engines, transmissions, performance and model line-up closer to the launch at Frankfurt; no date has yet been decided for the South African release of the new i10.
