DURBAN – The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is searching for a reckless Gauteng driver who placed his life and the lives of other motorists in danger when he jumped out of his moving car on Moloto Road in Pretoria and continued to steer the vehicle.
The motorist, who was driving a red SUV with Gauteng number plates, was recorded by another motorist travelling behind him.
The man is seen climbing out the driver's side window of his vehicle moving down Moloto Road.
The man seems unconcerned about the vehicles on the two-lane road with traffic flowing in both directions.
The vehicle is seen meandering from the shoulder of the road to the other end of the lane while the man sits on the door of the car and waves his arms above the roof.
At this point, a driver in a white car in the oncoming lane is seen driving on the shoulder on his side to prevent a collision.
After several vehicles pass by and others are seen heading towards the red vehicle, the man begins to climb onto the roof of the car.
As he sits on the roof of the car, he continuously bends down to presumably steer the car.
It appears as if he is steering the car with his arms and feet.
At this point he comes very close to the solid middle white line as a van passes by on the other side of the road.
All of a sudden, the man quickly jumps back into the car seconds before a truck passes him and moves back into his lane.
The man then jumps out once more and appears to blow a kiss to the motorists behind him before he turns into another road.
Spokesperson for the RTMC, Simon Zwane said the matter is under investigation.
“We are following all the leads,” he said..
The RTMC called on the members of the public to report reckless and negligent driving to 0861 400 800.
