DURBAN – The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) has welcomed the new cabinet in the KwaZulu-Natal government and says it will closely monitor its performance under the leadership of Premier Nomusa Dube -Ncube.

Sanco said it had had noted the self-imposed target by the new premier, committing that 53 000 housing opportunities will be created in the province.

“Sanco will use the same target as one of the measures of her and her cabinet’s success or failure in office during their tenure. We believe that the current Member of the Executive Council (MEC) of Human Settlement and Public Works, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, took heed of this target,” said Sanco provincial secretary Sizwe Cele.

He added that as a civic body, they were going to play their watchdog role with greater energy and purpose.

“Gone are the days where Sanco was the praise singer for our politicians whom we love so dearly, even if their performance is of mediocre standard.

“Whereas this time, Sanco strictly focuses on strategic targets being achieved and service delivery being timeously carried out for our constituency which is predominately the destitute masses of this province and country,” Cele continued.

Sanco described the new cabinet as well balanced, composed of fresh blood and experienced individuals.
