DURBAN - Four suspects were arrested when the police raided at a well-known drug den in Westham, Phoenix.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court this week for being in possession of drugs.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said that on Monday, police officers from Phoenix conducted an intelligence operation in Wareham Place in Westham.

“During the operation the police arrested three suspects who were found in possession of drugs. The suspects, aged between 18 and 46, were found in possession of 650 capsules of heroin,” she said.

The operations come after a drug bust in Univale Place last Friday.

In that incident, police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit conducted an operation at Univale Place.

“When the police arrived, the outer building was left abandoned. A search was conducted at the outer premises and the back yard, which resulted in the recovery of 10 200 capsules of heroin and 1 190 pieces of rock cocaine.

“Cash of R3 000 was also found. The recovered drugs are worth R425 000. The police are still searching for the suspects who fled.”

Gwala appealed to the community to continue working hand in hand with the police.
