The British sandwich and coffee shop franchise, Pret A Manger, is gearing up to open its first locations in South Africa in 2025.

While no dates have been released, the first shops are to debut in Melrose Arch and The Zone in Rosebank and South Africans are getting ready for the opening.

The brand's arrival marks a milestone for local food enthusiasts eager to experience Pret’s world-famous menu and café culture.

Since its first shop opened in London in 1986, Pret A Manger has grown into a global phenomenon with over 650 shops in 18 countries.

Known for its commitment to freshly prepared food, Pret’s menu includes a delicious variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads, baked goods, and snacks.

Catering to a diverse audience, the brand also offers vegetarian and vegan options, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Complementing its food is Pret’s signature range of organic coffees, teas, and an assortment of hot and cold beverages.

The franchise’s expansion into South Africa is being spearheaded by the Johannesburg-based Millat Group, a family-led private equity firm. Millat secured the exclusive license for Pret earlier this year and has ambitious plans for the brand’s rollout over the next decade.

Pret A Manger is not only renowned for its menu but also for its commitment to ethical practices. From using sustainable ingredients to promoting food waste reduction, the brand is deeply focused on “doing the right thing."

With its launch in prominent Johannesburg locations, Pret A Manger is poised to captivate local coffee and food lovers alike.
