Pretoria-based multimedia artist, Ulricke Lourens's exhibition entitled Reconstructed Constriction opens on Wednesday at the Fried Contemporary Art gallery and studio (430 Charles Street, Brooklyn). The works consist out of nine video-based works, photographs and digital prints of video stills that explore the impact of waist training on the female body. The exhibition runs until November 25.

As part of the Ibero-American Music Festival taking place at the Unisa Conference Hall, Sunnyside campus, catch the renowned Colombian singer, Maria Olga Pineros Lara this Thursday at 7.30pm. She will perform a programme of traditional Colombian songs. Entrance is free.

The Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker opens at the State Theatre this Friday. It's one to get the family in the festive spirit. Ticket prices range from R59 to R152 and it is half-price on opening night. The show will run till December 10.

Catch the Big Yellow Couch Party with 5FM at News Cafe in Menlyn this Friday. Miller Genuine Draft, 5FM and selected News Cafe outlets have partnered to host newsflash parties in November. The events will feature well-known DJs such as 5FM's Ian F and Sasha Martinengo, who will be broadcasting live.
