Valentine’s Day is typically associated with chocolates, roses, and romantic dinners. However, for those seeking a deeper, more meaningful way to celebrate this day, a special event in Durban offers something uniquely beautiful at the ‘’Your Words: The Love Experience’’

Hosted by renowned poet Nkululeko ‘Page’ Ngwenya, this Valentine’s-inspired event is an evening of poetry, music, and heartfelt storytelling, set to take place on February 15, at the UKZN Jazz Center.

As part of a growing movement of spoken word artists in South Africa, Ngwenya and his fellow performers will explore love in all its forms, romantic, platonic, and self-love through powerful poetry.

While poetry may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Valentine’s Day, ‘’Your Words’’ is a timely reminder that love is not just a fleeting feeling, but a powerful force that can be captured in words and shared through art.

Featuring poets like Gubhela, Xabiso Vili, and Sindiswa Zulu, the event will celebrate the many ways love manifests in our lives, from the joyful to the challenging.

In addition to the spoken word, soulful music will weave its way through the evening. Special performances by N’den and live piano by Khulekani Hadebe will add another layer to the experience, making it a true fusion of art forms that touch the heart.

For those feeling inspired, an open mic session will allow attendees to share their expressions of love. This inclusivity makes the event not just a showcase, but a shared celebration of the power of love to bring people together.

This Valentine's weekend event also serves as a reminder of the role art plays in our lives, offering a space for reflection, connection, and emotional expression. Whether you're a poetry lover or just someone looking for a different kind of Valentine's experience, ‘’Your Words’’ promises to be a night of beauty and emotion that will linger long after the final word is spoken.
