Local songstress Mavhungu has collaborated with artists from the US and Australia to release a song that showcases South Africa’s rich music heritage.

Titled “Haunted”, the afro pop track features celebrated Australian DJ and producer, Marcus Santoro and New York-based DJ and producer, Lohrasp Kansara.

On the track, Mavhungu’s illuminating vocals highlight her Venda culture, which she is incredibly proud of.

This adds cultural richness and global energy to the track, making it a powerful anthem that will resonate with audiences worldwide.

She said: “Being myself in music is everything to me. I love to embrace my culture and I am incredibly proud of where I am from. My language is very spiritual to me and I love to connect with the world through my music.”

This is not the first time the artist has stepped out to record with global musicians. In the past, she has worked with French producer Funkky on “Mitodzi”.

Santoro revealed that his musical rediscovery was the inspiration behind the new song.

“It’s a fresh start in my career. Having the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone and create something magical was a fantastic feeling and to be part of a global collaboration.

“To add to that magic, the music video of ‘Haunted’ was shot in the heart of Johannesburg ... it gives the song a whole new dimension and I’m so proud to see this come to life.”
