Beyoncé has been crowned the greatest pop star of the 21st century by Billboard, the renowned music charting site, which revealed its pick as part of an ongoing series.
“Beyoncé tops our staff-chosen editorial list based on her full 25 years of influence, impact, and evolution,” explained Billboard’s Andrew Unterberger.
Billboard highlighted that Beyoncé’s position at the top of the list comes from her record-breaking 32 Grammy wins and her dedication to pushing boundaries.
They described her as a performer and creator “whose commitment to innovation, evolution, and all-around excellence has made her the bar against which all other pop stars this century have long been measured” over the past 25 years.
As the artist with the most Grammy wins in history, with 11 nominations for her 2024 album “Cowboy Carter," she is anticipated to add more accolades to her name at the January ceremony.
The "Texas Hold 'Em" singer also has a long history with Billboard’s charts. She has achieved nine No. 1 singles and 24 top-10 hits on the Hot 100.
Eight of her solo albums have topped the Billboard 200 chart, beginning with her 2003 debut, “Dangerously In Love”. Following her success as a member of Destiny’s Child, 11 of her solo albums have made it into the Billboard Top 10.
Billboard has unveiled its list of the 25 greatest pop artists of the past 25 years since August. The series features artists the publication believes have defined pop stardom and “exemplified pop greatness” since 2000.
Last week, Taylor Swift secured the No. 2 position, with Rihanna following in third place.
The top 10 also includes Adele, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Drake.
