The South African music industry is rallying around rapper and entrepreneur Slikour, following a troubling hit-and-run incident that has left him recovering in hospital.

The artist, whose real name is Siyabonga Metane, took to Instagram to share his experience, revealing the emotional impact of the encounter beyond his physical injuries.

“While running today I got hit and run by a car. I’m ok, thank God but what traumatised me was when the nurse at the hospital told me how common hit-and-run patients get admitted in South Africa.”

His words resonate with a growing community of joggers and walkers, as he urged them to remain vigilant while navigating the streets: “These perpetrators don’t care about you and your health goals or whatever gets you up.”

With a touch of humour, he added: “Also I know if I was listening to Kendrick and not Drake on my pods this wouldn’t have happened to me,” followed by a laughing emoji.

Yet the gravity of the situation was not lost on the artist, who stressed the importance of safety for fellow runners and walkers: “Seriously though, be safe out there, there are many families out there and I’m only posting this cause I’m grateful my situation wasn't the worst and wouldn’t want anyone else experiencing it.”

Slikour also posted a short video from his hospital bed, which revealed the aftermath of the accident - a minor busted lip. The rapper’s message has since garnered an outpouring of support from his industry peers.

DJ Speedsta lamented: “Damn, sorry bro! This is why I fear running in the street with headphones on. Eish! Hope you’re okay bro!”

Nandi Madida added: “Speedy recovery brother. So sorry.”

DJ Sbu expressed his relief:  “Thank God you're safe bro. Strength. To more life.”

Enhle Mbali commented: “Oh no … please do take care friend.”

Responding to the warmth and concern expressed in the comments, Slikour reassured fans that his recovery was going well: “Even though I was hit and infuriated by the perpetrators my encounter was minor. I don’t take for granted how lucky I was.”

This incident is reminiscent of similar challenges faced by others in the industry, including rapper Big Zulu, who recently emerged from a life-threatening car accident.

The significant damage to his BMW 325 remained a testament to the seriousness of his crash. After his discharge, Zulu expressed gratitude for the support he received, assuring fans he was safe and in good health.

He is now back in the studio, revitalised and ready to create music once more.
