Durban — Ndwedwe Municipality held its first mayoral gala dinner at the Johnny Makhathini Hall in Ndwedwe on Friday.
The event was attended by prominent businessmen/women politicians and thought leaders. To name a few Dumisani Shange ex-SABC news executive, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Sihle Zikalala, Sbongi Ngcobo from Ukhozi FM, Xolani Zuma corporate lawyer, Mthoko Gumede a Ndwedwe businessman, Jeeten Singh an investor who will be building a mall (business) in Ndwedwe, Mukelani Ngwane a Ndwedwe businessman and municipality communications consultant Hlangulani Msomi of Indayi.
The aim of the event was to create a networking platform and for the municipality to attract investors.
The municipality said it was to open a way with prospective stakeholders and traditional leaders had availed land for development.
Ndwedwe mayor Sam Mfeka stressed the importance of prominent business people of Ndwedwe to be its ambassadors.
Acting municipal manager Disco Khuzwayo shared visuals of investment sites in his presentation and the opportunity for Ndwedwe businesses to grow. He said peopIe needed to bear in mind as a rural municipality they operated on a shoestring budget, as a total of R296 million was required for a municipality like Ndwedwe.
“What makes Ndwedwe an ideal investment destination is its proximity to the Dube Trade Port and King Shaka Airport. This means that perishable agricultural products from Ndwedwe can be speedily transported to the rest of the country via air. We have the ports of Durban and Richards Bay not far away.”
