Durban — Police opened an inquest docket after a skeleton washed up on Cuttings Beach, south of Durban, on Youth Day.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that on June 16 Wentworth police were called to Cuttings Beach where a skeleton was washed up.
“An inquest docket was opened and the remains were handed over to Pinetown Mortuary,” Ngcobo said.
Private security company PT Alarms said a partial corpse was found washed up on Cuttings Beach.
The PT Alarms tactical unit received a call for assistance when a fisherman spotted the gruesome sight, PT Alarms said.
The company said Metro Police Search and Rescue and SAPS were informed and the body was retrieved by the former.
Speaking to the Daily News on Monday, PT Alarms spokesperson Dhevan Govindasamy said the body had almost become a skeleton.
“It was just the upper part and the skull. The bottom half, pelvis, were missing,” Govindasamy said.
