Durban - One person was killed in a landslide as persistent scattered to widespread showers continued in KwaZulu-Natal.
Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said one person was killed following a landslide in Umlazi, south of Durban, on Sunday.
Herbst said earlier on Sunday, that Medi Response paramedics responded to reports of a landslide affecting residential dwellings.
“On arrival of Medi Response Search and rescue crews, together with the SAPS and Metro Police Search and Rescue, it was established that a landslide had occurred, engulfing an informal dwelling. The single occupant of the dwelling was unfortunately killed during the landslide,” Herbst said.
“Handlers and K9s combed the area to ensure that no further persons were in the immediate area, with negative results.”
Herbst added that the scene was handed over to local police units.
Police said that an inquest was being investigated.
