Durban — The Isipingo Community Policing Forum (CPF) has reported that it was following the law when it came to the disregarding of by-laws after eThekwini Municipality said its by-law enforcement team has clamped down on a container-holding business that was causing excessive noise and disturbing neighbours.

In a brief statement on Facebook, eThekwini Municipality said the business was also storing containers outside of their property and encroaching on municipal land.

The municipality added that Isipingo Beach residents on Outer Circuit Road welcomed the by-law enforcement.

It added that residents contacted the metro to complain about the excessive noise which was causing a disturbance.

The municipality also said that it works with community structures to enforce by-laws and thanked the Isipingo Beach civic and safety committee for alerting them to the issue.

CPF chairperson Aiden David said that the matter came up in their CPF meetings, also attended by the Durban metro police.

David said that the company owner used the land without permission and because no one said anything about it, it became the company’s comfort zone and they acted as though the land was their own.

“They would also drive forklifts and other heavy vehicles on the road,” David said. “It was a problem.”

He said that there was a similar issue on another road where the business owner did not care about the neighbours.

“He was fined many times. There’s even a court case (pending).

“We want him to vacate the area,” David said.

He added that they were following the law with this. They wanted to do things correctly.
