Durban — About 15 Durban women have taken to social media to share their ordeals travelling with a Bolt driver.
The women, from KwaMashu, Ntuzuma and uMlazi, posted their ordeals on Facebook and soon others came forward to identify the modus operandi of the driver, who they named on social media.
The incident came to light when Nosipho Mfeka told how the driver, with his friend, took her iPhone, AirPods, money and some of her essentials in January this year.
Mfeka said the driver took her valuables at gun and knifepoint. She said he dropped her at a place she was not familiar with.
She added he had told her even if she tried to contact the police and opened a case, it would be in vain.
“He boldly told me that even if I open a case, it will not go anywhere as he claimed that he is very close with the police officers,” said Mfeka.
Mfeka said the driver seemed like a person adamant that he would never get caught.
She only found the courage to post her ordeal on Facebook last Monday and that was when all the victims came forward.
One told how the driver robbed her of her possessions and she claimed he had raped her. She too did not open a case because she didn’t think the police would solve it.
The driver allegedly changes vehicles as a Bolt driver.
It is said that he also changes his number plates regularly.
Fortunate Dlamini came forward telling of a recent incident.
Dlamini works at a salon and said the driver came to the salon with a group of what she would call his friends.
She said they snatched all the weaves at the salon at gunpoint and also one of their client’s cars. They then fled.
One person, who asked not to be named, claimed that the driver was from her neighbourhood and it was sad to see he hurts women the most in spite of having a mother and sisters.
She said that he is supposed to be protecting women.
Bolt’s press officer, Mahlodi Molekane, responded by saying that they regretted hearing about the ordeal that the women had experienced.
They thanked the Daily News for bringing the matter to their attention and said that they would investigate.
No one came forward with their case numbers, said police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo.
Ngcobo warned people to be vigilant and to report all crimes.
