CAPE TOWN - A number of new faces have joined Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis’ mayoral committee (Mayco), with a few familiar figures including Safety boss JP Smith maintaining their previous portfolios.
Hill-Lewis announced the new mayco team at the Council Chambers at the Civic Centre on Monday and said every member appointed will undergo a lifestyle audit.
This after his inauguration as Mayor last week.
For Water and Waste, Xanthea Limberg is out and medical doctor Zahid Badroodien will replace her.
Patricia van der Ross will take over Badroodien's previous portfolio of Community Services and Health.
A new entrant, Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews is to resume responsibility for the Spatial Planning and Environment portfolio.
Other new faces are Siseko Mbandezi, appointed mayco member for finance and Beverley van Reenen, for Energy.
Roberto Quintas has been appointed mayco member for Urban Mobility covering the Roads and Transport directorate, and Grant Twigg is mayco member for Urban Management.
Malusi Booi remains mayco member for Human Settlements as does JP Smith for Safety and Security.
Entrepreneur Theresa Uys has been appointed mayco member for Corporate Services.
James Vos is appointed mayco member for Economic Growth.
Desiree Visagie was named chief whip with a mandate to ensure the smooth functioning of Council.
Hill-Lewis said the team was announced based on the current structure of directorates and they would take proposals for changes to the structure to Council soon, and the portfolios would then change accordingly.
“This team has been chosen for their combination of experience, skills, fresh energy and thinking, and their commitment to making the City of Cape Town a city we can all be proud of.
“They know that they have my full support, and I am excited for the future of Cape Town and all that we are going to achieve together,” he said.
