CAPE TOWN – The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) presented its preliminary findings of their Election Satisfaction Survey 2021, which found that 68% of voters took less than 15 minutes to reach their voting stations.
Around 22% took between 16-30 minutes, 7% took between 31-60 minutes and 3% took longer than an hour.
Overall, 86% of the voters found the voting stations easily accessible to persons with disabilities and the elderly, while 7% did not.
The HSRC was commissioned by the IEC to conduct two studies, a Voter Participation Survey, which was conducted in September-October 2021, and an Election Satisfaction Survey conducted on election day.
“Ninety-six percent reported satisfaction with the instructions and signage at their voting stations. 97% found the voting procedures inside the voting station easy to understand,” the IEC noted.
As final results are captured for the local government elections, the IEC said the progress stood at 69% by Wednesday morning.
Provincial results reflect that the DA, the Western Cape’s governing party, remained the front runner leading in 19 councils having taken 272 wards.
“The Commission remains committed to finalising results expeditiously, while taking care to ensure that all necessary verifications are enforced. The number of completed municipalities now stands at 111 from a total of 257,” a statement by the IEC read.
