GUITARIST Albert Frost is involved in an innovative project at the Tulbagh Arts Festival this weekend. The so-called Dark Prince of South African Blues will team up with mezzo-soprano Minette du Toit-Pearce in a musical journey titled Everyday I Have the Blues, which will crisscross blues and classical music. Expect everything from Bo Diddley to Debussy and beyond.

Other artists to be featured include top instrumentalists such as Kevin Gibson on drums, Anjulie Nock on cello, Charles Lazar on bass, and Andre Petersen on piano.

The concert is the brainchild of Coenie Visser, and is directed by Melissa van der Spuy.

This particular collaboration of musicians aims to communicate a passion for their art, fellow musicians and audiences.

This gala event of the festival takes place at Montpellier de Tulbagh on Saturday at 7pm.

General festival events will be located in Church Street and at various venues throughout the town. Other arts on show will be live performances, fine art and photography. The region’s flowers and gardens will also be a highlight. – Arts writer
