WITH Bierfest, Cape Town’s festival of fun and all things Bavarian bier culture-related, Newlands Spring Brewing Co. have lined up a batch of the microbrewery’s finely crafted beers that will be available on tap at this annual bier event.
Every frothy mouthful that festival-goers can expect at the Newlands Brewery, Village Green from Friday to Sunday has been made using the finest spring water. This is delivered from the original source of the Newlands Spring where, the mountain water still bubbles up, crystal clear and as pure as ever.
Beer offerings available at this year’s event will include the Passionate Blond, Jacob’s Pale Ale and a Mountain Weiss.
The cutely named Passionate Blond is a brilliantly drinkable beer whose hops are sought-after worldwide. Top aromatic notes of passion fruit combined with a Belgian pilsner malt create the fresh body of this blend.
Jacob’s Pale Ale celebrates the heritage of pioneering brewer, Jacob Letterstedt. Revisiting a 155-year old recipe discovered in the brewery’s Newlands archives, three barley malt varieties deliver a rich colour and an equally bold flavour, complemented by traditional English hop aromatics.
Brewed in traditional Bavarian style, the Mountain Weiss is an unfiltered wheat beer carrying overtones of banana and clove. Finely crafted with water sourced from Table Mountain’s natural springs, it delivers a refreshing beer.
TOPS at SPAR Bierfest in association with Tsogo Sun, Jägermeister, Gearhouse, Dryver, Good Fellas and Jiguja will be hosted inside a 4 000-seater Bavarian brauhaus festooned with festival décor direct from München.
Modelled on the Munich Oktoberfest, the event will once again recreate the revelry, tradition and the tastes of this epic annual celebration.
The event takes place Friday from 6pm to 11pm, Saturday from 11am to 4pm, and from 6pm to 11pm. Sunday’s tastings open from 12pm and end at 5pm. Bierfest supports The Sunflower Fund, Institute for the Blind and Movember.
