Cars being driven furiously

“It will be my way and my crew,” mumbles Dominic (Vin Diesel) in this diabolically scripted paean to outrageous motoring. Twelve-year-old boys (and those pining for Top Gear) should be delighted with this seventh pumped-up instalment of souped-up cars, barely clad women, and weak philosophising (“Everyone's looking for the thrill, but what's real is family”).

I was a bit lost by the banter and internal issues between a cast of mainly bald, angry men (Diesel, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson), but some of the action is undeniably thrilling.

The plot? It mainly involves Statham's former black-ops agent, Deckard Shaw, taking revenge on Dom's crew, and Kurt Russell's special-ops agent recruiting Dom's “family” for an audacious theft. The plot and the script hardly matter. It's all about cars being driven furiously and in this respect this seventh slice impresses.
