Cape Town - Police together the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) are investigating a case of rape where two police officers is alleged to have kidnapped and raped a woman on a farm after offering to give to her boyfriend’s home in Moorreesburg.
It’s alleged the two police officers raped her five times and forced her to perform oral sex.
This is the fourth case involving rape allegations against police officers in the province in recent months.
The incident is believed to have taken place on February 8, 2025 just after 10.30pm in the vicinity of a gravel road in Moorreesburg while the woman was travelling from a farm in the vicinity.
Its alleged the victim was travelling to her boyfriend’s residence via a farm when she was apparently offered a lift by two police officers who claimed they could take her to her destination.
In doing this, they apparently raped her more than five times including forcing her to allegedly perform oral sex and after dropping her off at her destination, they gave her five beers.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Andrew Traut said the matter was under investigation by IPID and did not confirm whether an arrest was imminent.
“Kindly be advised that SAPS can confirm that a rape case was registered based on the claims made by a 27-year-old female that she was raped by two police officials in Moorreesburg. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation by IPID and their communication department is in a better position to provide more details.”
IPID spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping said they were investigating the case: “It is alleged that two police officers from Moorreesburg SAPS allegedly kidnapped and raped a lady from a farm in the Swartland area.
“It is alleged that they offered her a lift in a state vehicle, but they raped her alongside the road.
“They then dropped her off at a nearby farm, and she immediately went to Piketberg SAPS to seek help.”
Bernard Pieters, Head of Community Activation Cape Forum said the police were supposed to enforce the law, not break it.
“A 2023 study concluded that less than 40% of the South African population trust SAPS.
“According to the study, trust in the police is even lower than trust in SABC and SARS. “Incidents like this need to be universally condemned to keep, and hopefully regain, the community’s trust in the SAPS.”
Zona Morton, a whistle blower said the increase in police being arrested for rape was shockingly on the increase: “There are no consequences management with regards to GBV involving police Members currently in the Western Cape.
“Domestic violence cases of police members are not treated with the urgency needed by SAPS Management.
“The pandemic proportions of policemen raping women are not even acknowledged as a priority in the province.
“I urge the Provincial Commissioner to act immediately and arrange GBV workshops for the members under his command. ”Female Police Officers are dealt with speedily when accused of wrongdoing.
“Why should male Officers be treated with kid gloves. As a Human Rights Defender, I urge SAPS to suspend the two members in question under the IPID Investigation is finalised.”
The duo are the fifth case involving allegations of rape in the province.
In January, Constable Naveron Jacobs, an orderly who worked in the sexual crimes regional court at Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court allegedly raped a female remandee.
In November, Constable Siyabonga Mbane, stationed at Mfuleni Police station was arrested followed by another on Christmas Day in Malmesbury.
