Cape Town - Opportunistic thieves have been caught red-handed, as law enforcement officials remain on high alert this festive season.
U-Watch Woodstock cheered the arrests of four suspects involved in a card swiping syndicate. The arrest came after a short chase, with the suspects eventually caught with card swiping equipment and receipts, said the group on its Facebook page.
“It’s understood that these suspects are prolific fraudsters and wanted because of their serial criminal activity.”
Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi said Woodstock police responded to information of a vehicle involved with crime syndicates travelling in the direction of Cape Town on Saturday. Police spotted the vehicle and pursued the suspects.
“The members managed to bring the vehicle to a halt and searched the occupants and the vehicle. They confiscated a swopping device and bank cards which did not belong to any of the suspects in the vehicle.”
The suspects were arrested and detained on a charge of possession of presumed stolen property.
Meanwhile, Bonteheuwel ward councillor Angus Mckenzie confirmed a shooting incident at T Block Bonteheuwel on Tuesday. A suspect found to be in possession of illegal ammunition was arrested and charged.
