Cape Town - The search for a missing teen from Bonteheuwel has ended in tragedy after his body was found in the morgue, with a gunshot wound to the head.

The family of Roezayg Butler, 17, have been left distraught after receiving a call from the police that his body had been found.

Butler was last seen leaving his grandmother’s house on October 3.

A family member said: “Thursday evening he sent a message to say he was sleeping over at a friend’s house.

“That’s the type of child he was, he would always inform us of his whereabouts.”

The relative said when Butler did not return home on Friday and did not communicate with them, they became worried.

“We looked at friends and relatives, never did we think of looking at police stations or morgues, because there was so much hope he’d be found alive.

“When we got the news it really broke everyone, his mother and grandmother especially, but as much as it hurts, we have the peace of mind that he is safe with our Creator.”

The relative said while Butler did not deserve to die the way he did, the family will pray for the suspects.

“We ask Allah to forgive and guide them onto the proper path so that they don’t end up doing this to another family. Roezayg had dreams, he wanted to dive deeper into the Quran, but now he is no longer with us, we ask Allah to grant him amongst the highest levels of Jannah.”

He also thanked everyone who helped look for Butler.

Police spokesperson, FC van Wyk, said Bishop Lavis police worked on the case and were informed by Goodwood SAPS that the boy was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

“According to reports the deceased was found on October 4, at about 00.40 at the N1 off ramp direction N7 Goodwood with gunshot wounds to the head.

“He was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation,” van Wyk said.
