Cape Town - The Stellenbosch Wine Harvest Parade returns to showcase some of the finest wines the renowned wine town has to offer.

After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the event is set to take place on Saturday, April 9, with farmers, workers and wine lovers mounting colourful floats and painting the town red to mark the end of this year’s wine season.

Llewellyn McDilling from the Stellenbosch Wine Route team said they were excited to be back

“We’re very excited to be back celebrating and doing the parade for the people of Stellenbosch and can’t wait for the event.”

The parade is the highlight of the event as it moves through the streets, starting at the Toy & Miniature Museum and making its way to the Stellenbosch Town Hall, where a ceremony will be held to award prizes to the best float and most spirited team.

Madalene Manuel of Stellenbosch Wine Routes gave insight into the other attractions attendees can expect at the event.

“The Ashwin Willemse Orient Marching Band and the ever-popular Western Province Marching Association (WPMA) will be performing at the event.

“We are also supporting the local communities’ projects by including local upcoming Pieter Langeveldt Drummies from Cloetesville, and the 2019 Large Drill Western Cape Competition champions Groote Schuur Primary School drum majorettes.”

Participants will also be treated to a braai, live music and refreshments, with special entertainment for the children too.

The event takes place with the support of the region’s wineries, wine route organisations, Wesgro and Stellenbosch Municipality. Booking is not necessary.
