Cape Town - The founder of popular Cape Flats Stories, Stanley Jacobs, has released a second book, “Cape Flats Undercover”.

Jacobs published his first book, “Cape Flats Love Affair” in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, and his second on Friday evening in Strandfontein.

The father of two describes himself as an IT professional during working hours, and an author and activist after-hours.

Jacobs manages the widely followed Facebook page, Cape Flats Stories, engaging with thousands of people on various topics affecting their lives, livelihood, and communities.

“My passion is the Cape Flats and her people,” Jacobs said.

It had taken two years to complete the recently launched book.

“The book is fiction but everything in it is relatable. The book takes us on a journey where girls from the Cape Flats disappear; some are found and others not. The focus is on corruption, social ills, human trafficking, poverty and inequality,” Jacobs said.

At the launch, attendees were entertained by the captivating sounds and presence of former Idols winner Karin Kortje.

The book launch also coincided with the launch of the Cape Flats Stories magazine, filled with positive and inspiring fiction and non-fiction accounts of life on the Cape Flats. The magazine will be distributed free of charge, every month from December 1.

Attendee Simone Borez said: “My thoughts on the book were that of a true life story, visualising everything in the book. I could relate to many things the reader was saying. I felt very emotional reading this book, laughing and crying while reading it.

“This is what is really happening in our communities in our areas… our forgotten communities. The sad reality, and also the good things... I’m looking forward to part two of Cape Flats Undercover.”

Borez said the magazine allowed the opportunity for people to share positive things taking place within the community, as well as business opportunities to help grow and strengthen the local economy.
