Wheat rises most in 2 weeks

Johannesburg - South African wheat rose by the most in almost two weeks in Johannesburg trading.

Wheat for December delivery increased 0.4 percent to 3,616 rand a metric ton by the noon close on the South African Futures Exchange, the biggest gain for a most-active contract since June 13.

South Africa, which is a net importer of wheat, is sub- Saharan Africa’s largest producer of the grain and the region’s biggest buyer after Nigeria and Sudan, according to US Department of Agriculture data.

White corn for delivery in July rose 0.4 percent to 1,816 rand a ton, while the yellow variety was unchanged at 1,915 rand a ton. - Bloomberg News
